Nike Digital Innovation Studio
Nike Digital Innovation Studio
Nike’s Digital Innovation Studio are the masterminds behind mobile apps like Nike SNKRS. This space in New York City represents the intersection of high tech, sneaker culture, sport, and street sensibility. As the lead graphic designer on the project, I worked with the project team from Studio O+A to develop the concept and overall aesthetic for the space, as well as collaborate with the Nike team, acquiring assets to use in the space.
This office space is located in a little-used corner of the Converse headquarters building. The fact that most employees didn’t even know there was an elevator lobby here gave us the inspiration to create a back alley feeling space for the entry. I worked with street artist, Stikki Peaches, who created an installation that perfectly encapsulated that concept. I also worked with a local neon sign fabricator to build the sign which flickers between reading Nike and NYC by turning off the I, the leg of the K, and the middle arm of the E.
Featured in the main conference room is a custom area rug I designed to replicate a basketball court, but based also on the geometry of a Persian rug.
On one wall of the common area is a custom basketball hoop. I used a photo taken down the street from where this office is located as the backer for an acrylic backboard.
Wall coverings throughout the space are pulled from Nike’s vast archive. The Jordan Elephant Print graces the wall of a small meeting room while felt replicas of sneaker soles act as acoustic tiles on the opposite wall. A collection of posters from various campaigns were provided by the Nike team. I then recolored each of them to fit our black, white, and gold color scheme and had them printed by a local screen printer in Manhattan.
